The Modbus plugin allows you to easily connect industrial devices compatible with Modbus TCP or Modbus RTU/ASCII into the FlexLogger environment from National Instruments.
With this module, you can quickly configure input/output channels to read or write data through Modbus registers, no additional development required. It is especially useful for test benches, monitoring applications, or data acquisition in industrial environments.
FlexLogger Modbus Plug-in
Seamlessly integrate your Modbus devices into FlexLogger
Quick and flexible setup
Installation is done via the NI Package Manager, and integration into FlexLogger is performed directly through the user interface by adding channels.
Once installed, the plugin enables:
Creation of channel groups (Channel Clusters)
Selection between TCP or serial protocol
Read and write access to Coil, Digital, Analog, and Holding registers
Use of a configuration wizard for easy setup
Configuration of endianness, polling rate, and register addressing
Supported register types
The Modbus Plugin for FlexLogger supports the main register types used in industrial communications.
Coil registers are used to send write commands, typically to activate or deactivate relays, valves, or other digital actuators.
Digital Inputs are used to read binary states, such as the presence or absence of a signal on a discrete input.
Analog Inputs allow continuous measurements to be acquired, such as voltage, current, or any other 16-bit signal from compatible sensors.
Holding Registers support both reading and writing of numeric data. They are commonly used to exchange setpoints, measurements, or configuration parameters with the device.
Each register can be precisely configured according to the expected data type (integer, float, etc.) and the memory architecture of the device (endianness, bit depth, etc.).
Assisted or advanced usage
To enhance efficiency, a built-in configuration wizard guides users through naming channels, setting addresses, and choosing data types in just a few clicks.
For advanced users, a manual method allows more granular control via custom parameter strings.
Typical applications
This plugin is ideal for:
Industrial test benches
Monitoring of Modbus-compatible sensors or actuators
Integration of automated systems in FlexLogger environments
Rapid prototyping of HMIs or field testing setups
Why use this plugin?
This plugin is designed for system integrators, test engineers, and developers working with Modbus equipment. It allows them to harness the power of FlexLogger without writing a single line of code, while keeping the flexibility of a fully customizable configuration.
